Committing to cruelty free beauty doesn’t mean you have to forgo salon pampering. Quite the opposite, as some of the best in the business either utilise luxurious, cruelty free cosmetics, or have created their own. Here, I’ve listed my top five…
1. Original A Salon – Paddington NSW (Cruelty Free Brand: O&M)
This salon is the birthplace of Original & Mineral and their flagship salon. For hair colouring, it is all about the brand’s CCT (Clean Colour Technology) permanent hair colour range (which is 100 per cent ammonia, resorcinol and PPD free). For cuts, blow-dries and upstyles, they use the gentle and effective O&M haircare and styling range. With warm, confident staff and a buzzing atmosphere in this cool, industrial space – it is no hardship to while away the hours in this salon.
2. Maiolo Salon – Sydney NSW (Cruelty Free Brand: Kevin Murphy)
In Robert Maiolo’s highly successful 20 years in the industry, he has worked with celebrities, on runway shows and advertising campaigns. It’s an intimidating pedigree, but intimidating he is not. He and his salon, which is located on Level 2 of the exquisite Stand Arcade, are so welcoming and the space itself is elegant and luxurious. Robert is known for his amazing cuts and, as far as I am concerned, is THE master of hair styling.
3. The Nail Lab –Darlinghurst NSW (Cruelty Free Brand: The Nail Lab)
The Nail Lab has found the perfect balance of professionalism and pampering. As the name implies, it is lab clean, the staff and owners are always friendly, appointments are on time and, most importantly, the manicures are impeccable. In addition to being the best in the biz, they have their own extensive range of Nail Polish which is not only cruelty free, but “5 free” (free of toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP and camphor). The lacquers are designed, created and bottled in Australia. All +70 of them!
4. Liv Lundelius – Double Bay NSW (Cruelty Free Brand: On Request)
If you need your hair and makeup professionally done, look no further than international makeup artist, Liv Lundelius. As an animal lover (and Mum to Dalston of @dalstonsdairy Instagram fame!), Liv has a solid understanding of which brands are cruelty free, and can tailor a look using these products (on request). Liv creates effortless makeup that reflects each client’s personal style.
5. Endota Spa – 9 Sydney Locations (Cruelty Free Brand: Dermalogica)
Endota is an indigenous Australian word meaning beautiful – an apt name for their inviting salons and calming treatments. As Australia’s largest spa network, there is a consistency across each of the Endota Spas that is both comforting and impressive. Here you can indulge in spa treatments, facials and massages using the Dermalogica product range.

At the time of writing, information included in this article is accurate. As salons can alter the brands ranged, and brands’ cruelty-free status can also change, ask the salon or specialist prior to your visit which brands are used and request the specific cruelty free brands at your appointment.
